Owning a home in the William Street Historic District of Martha’s Vineyard was a long-held dream, but the house (built in 1848) needed serious upgrades and redesign for better flow and usability. The goal was to do this while maintaining the historic features that made the house so special.
OUR APPROACH
This was a massive undertaking and the classic Pandora’s Box of a project! In over a year, all the major systems had been brought up to date, the structure had been reinforced and the roof replaced. We added a new full bath and remodeled the two existing baths. The kitchen was completely redesigned and upgraded. Then we decorated!
“The British Bedroom” is a nod to the owner’s love of England
New shutters, new sconces & new landscaping show off the front of the house
Main ENtrance & Living
This is the main “living room” with a fireplace and bathed in natural light.
FAMILY ROOM
“The Snug” also has a fireplace, a bar, and the TV. All the original trim and moldings, as well as the ancient floors, were preserved throughout

The new kitchen is truly “The Heart of the Home” in front of yet another fireplace.

Every possible place for storage was utilized. White Caeserstone counters and all new appliances and fixtures don’t take away from the ancient character of the house.
LIVING & dining
We worked in pops of color in the dining room chairs and cabinets.
Master bedroom
The cozy master bedroom is tucked under the eaves. Storage galore – like the inside of a boat – was built into the master bedroom. We kept the claw-foot tub and porcelain sink in the master bath. We had fun with wallpaper in the downstairs powder room
